Our first built-in KitchenAid failed, but it was 14 years old so it was expected. Since we like the first one so much we decided to purchase it again. We decided to lower it and build new cabinets, according to the microwaves dimensions, so we were committed to the KitchenAid. We purchased our first one from Colders and had to wait three weeks. When it arrived there were machining imperfections in the stainless steel (a couple of lumps in the stainless) which were quite noticeable. Also the glass plate was cracked and the gray plastic holder of the plate was broke into 3 pieces. We returned it to colders and they ordered a 2nd one for which we had to wait another 3 weeks. We went to pick it up, Colders unpacked the microwave, and again there were machining imperfections; however although on the same part, but in different spots. Colder's told it that it's not worth ordering another since we probably would have the same problem. Since we rebuilt the cabinet for the Kitchenaide we decided to purchase it from a different store thinking maybe we might eliminate the machining error. We waited another three weeks and finally got one without the imperfections. Again we waited another 3.5 weeks for our microwave. I had the microwave worked fine until a week later when I wanted to use the one-touch baked potatoe feature. That did not work. We got an error message. So we were told we had to call a kitchenaide appliance repair service and was told by them, according to the error message, a new sensor (we had never used it) and a harness was needed, they had to wait for the parts and we were scheduled almost 4 weeks out. After the problem with the first microwave we ran to Walmart to pick up a small counter-top microwave for which we paid $55.00. It has close to the same features as the KitchenAide and works like a champ unlike the $1,300 built-in Kitchenaide. We have great concerns that the Kitchenaide will malfunction again and then not be under warranty. Buyer Beware!!!
