This is a replacement after the door seals in my first one collapsed. I do not like the fact that the glass fogs up in the bottom two corners pretty much every time I use it. My previous one did this too. Broiler element does not work effectively. Baking is inconsistent and food browns/burns in the back area of the unit. I also don't like the fact that the metal rack does not sit level in the unit if I take out the glass turntable as I don't want it to rotate because the size of the dish.

Bought this as part of a major kitchen remodel. The KitchenAid built in model is quite expensive. This countertop model can be installed with a trim kit, and looks fabulous! Love the features including the convection capability. It is our second oven.

Delivered product needs to be replaced

I purchased the unit new but it was installed and not functioning well -- the turntable turned with hesitation and with a noise. I hope the quality of the containment of microwave beams is better! I will be getting a replacement.

Depth is incorrect on the specifications

I can't adequately rate performance at this time as KA has agreed, with no hassle, to replace due to a non-functioning power button. I do want to alert buyers and KA that the specifications are incorrect on the depth, which is actually 18" due to a bulge at the back of the unit, unlike my former model. The plug is a straight in plug vs a side plug, and this also can make a difference in your depth measurements. Formerly owned KCMS1555RSS2 and the door button seems much stiffer on the new model and I have had "door" error messages, when the door was fully closed. There have been a couple of other minor differences as well in performance between the two models, but I don't as yet have a feel for whether they are truly a performance issue, a model difference, or a unit with problems. Even though both are the same wattage, this one seems to need more time to heat at the same level. I've only had it a short time and use has been limited due to power button issue so the main reason for the post is to alert all on the depth issue.

Misrepresented what it can di

I bought this microwave convection oven as I do not have space for an oven after my Panasonic one had issues. The instructions say I can preheat the oven and set a cook time. This feature did not work. Kitchenaid took it back and sent me a new one. When this feature did not work a second time, they sent a service person to check it out. Despite the fact they first admitted that the product should do what is outline in the instructions, they now decided that it shouldn't have said that in the instructions, that it is a mistake and the product is not designed to be able to change the cook time after preheating and somehow this is my problem. They would not provide a refund. I will never buy another KitchenAid product and I will be sharing my story with everyone so that they do not fall victim to this blatant misrepresentation of what their products are capable of. Truly disappointed.

Dependable but in need of better options

I love a convention microwave and when I was unable to find a replacement for my Panasonic, we chose the only other option the Kitchenaid. It is reliable for what we need, but the metal rack is too small and cannot sit on the bottom with out the glass tray as it falls into the grooves. Fortunately I kept my old Panasonic rack which enables me to bake a slightly larger baking dish/pan that requires less clearance and not rotate. I also have a beef that you can't defrost for less than 3:54 on the minimum selection. The front glass also discoloured on the bottom right corner which is fortunately replaced under warranty within a week of it expiring. This shouldn't happen.

Need to hid this in a closet

Never have I been so disappointed with a product before, the plastic cover over the keypad, scratched easily now I have a rough surface and it looks like a cheezy microwave. Found out it can not be replace or fixed as long as it still works. Not worth the money if you are looking for a high end appliance.

Big disappointment

I bought this microwave because my previous microwave stopped running after almost 16 years, it was a Kitchen Aid and I loved it. This new model is poorly designed. The push button to open the door must be pushed so hard, the microwave moves back and sideways on the counter, it won't stay put. The old one had a handle, it was easy to open. The letters on the control panel are smaller and hard to read (I could read letters on my old one without glasses, not with this one). The lack of a handle means you can burn yourself because the door gets hot when using the convection feature. Never had that problem with the old one! Wish I could bring my old one back to life.

Poor to lousy product

We bought this product originally 2 + years ago and the original unit failed within the manufacturers warranty period. Received a replacement unit and it now ( 1+ year after receiving it) has failed. Will not microwave. Was told by KitchenAid that nothing can be done other than schedule a repair at my expense. Paid over $550.00 for the original unit along with other KitchenAid products for our new home. Also had to have the double oven repaired/replaced. For a once stellar product line it is now junk. Had a G.E Advantium obviously more money but it lasted 16+years without problems. Chinese made products don't cut it, maybe they should be made in USA with that type of quality.

Defective design and horrendous customer service

Purchased this convection microwave (in stainless steal) a year and a half ago. Happy with the performance of the product but now there is foam hanging down in between the door which looks terrible. I reached out to Kitchen Aid's customer service after our repair company told us that there were no parts available for this model and they confirmed that they (Kitchen Aid) does not make parts for their countertop microwaves and there is nothing they can do. The customer service agents both of them recommended that I go purchase another $600 unit. If I had known this I would have requested a different brand of oven and microwave in our newly renovated kitchen. We spent a lot of money for a beautiful custom kitchen but it now features a defective eyesore of a microwave. I will never purchase a kitchen aid product again due to their lack of customer service.

Expensive microwave

I bought this recently so I could save space and have a microwave/convection oven in one. It's beautiful but every time I try to push the button to open it-it is not an easy task and I end up actually moving the microwave. Not good for something that is pricey. Recently the glass turntable exploded in the microwave-not sure what could have caused that as I have never heard of such a thing. A real mess. Haven't really been able to use it because of that so can't really rate the performance.

Horrendous door button

I cannot believe there are not more negative reviews of the button that opens the door on this microwave. At almost $600 you'd think that simple things like opening the door would be a given, but my wife and kids literally can't push the button hard enough to open the door. I, myself have to use two hands sometimes. We renovated our kitchen recently and added this microwave along with the trim kit to our other black stainless KitchenAid appliances. While looking fine, this microwave is going to have to get replaced by something else. I've tried KitchenAid support along with Home Depot support to no avail, nobody will even call me back. They both tell me to go to the other customer's service. Unbelievably disappointing and I wish I would have seen more negative reviews of this microwave. On a side note, the double ovens, awesome fridge and really quiet dishwasher that we purchased from KitchenAid are all 5 stars, this microwave is ruining the whole package unfortunately.

Performance iffy

The microwave/convection looks nice and the trim kit also finishes the look beautifully. We find it to be a little too small for us, although that could work for others. The performance is iffy though. We frequently get an error that the door is open when it clearly is not and the power level button is also a little flaky. It would be nice if you could use the power level button without needing to select 'time cook' first.

Bought KitchenAid only to get black stainless to match the new stove, fridge and dishwasher. At 1000w., vs old 1200w Whirlpool unit, it takes twice as long to heat my coffee. 1000w. vs 1200w. is only a 16+% decrease in power and yet takes 100% longer for the coffee. Additionally, the alarm continues to ring after the door is open, unlike the old Whirlpool model. A real nuisance when you're trying not to wake someone.

If you haven't upgraded your microwave in 10+ yrs, you need to, and this one is great. Auto-features are convenient and ease to understand. We used the trim kit to make it appear as a mounted unit in our cabinets.
