I also have a 30 year old mixer that belonged to my mom. It can be turned to a lower speed than my new one. When I add flour to my new one, it goes everywhere. I never had to use the shield with my old onr. Also I do not like having to hand wash the wire whisk. That is time consuming and inconvenient. I love the color of my new one, but I think the quality is slightly lacking

I thought about this purchase for a few years and I'm glad I didn't wait any longer. I bought it primarily to make bread dough, as arthritis in my elbows made kneading and mixing heavy dough painful. Well I used the past tense because with this mixer I can continue my 40 year habit of baking my own bread. I have been doing experimenting with cookie dough, pizza dough, and muffins so far, and I am thinking I might want to try the pasta attachment. This stand mixer is easy to use, easy to clean, and didn't take as much room on my counter as I thought it would.

My husband bought this for me as a surprise, and you can imagine my delight. The color in particular is a real treat, adding warmth to a kitchen than can sometimes be fully chrome and black. We've made bread and meringue and pancakes and --- you name it, even with only the essential tools. A must have for any cook - we can't wait to get the extra attachments and have more fun.

Mixer gets hot and jumps

Bought this to replace boring white Kitchenaid that I've had for 25+ years. Many regrets for not getting it out of the box for several months, past time to return. The new, pretty yellow mixer not only gets hot when used for a longer period of time (I made royal icing), but it also "jumps" at higher speeds. I had to literally hold the top to keep it from jumping. I am afraid to use it now because of the heating up issue mainly but also because it jumps. So disappointing to spend that much money for a sub-par quality appliance.
