Great Trash Compactor!

We built a house in Oklahoma in 2005 and this Whirlpool Trash Compactor was installed in our home. When we moved back to Texas in July 2019, we had our kitchen island extended to accommodate the same Whirlpool Trash Compactor. We have always been pleased with this trash compactor's appearance and performance.

No solid compact option

This does not offer an option to "solid compact" which our other one had that was very helpful. We found a way to turn off the compactor when it's jn the down position to "hold" it there but that's not the same thing. Not sure why it would be made with out this feature.

Love flexibility

Bought this about 2-mo. ago. Love the size, the color, and the fact that it does NOT have to be built in!! The bags have slits that line up with the buttons on the sides of the trash bin. Important to have the bag lay flat at the bottom, so that this alignment can happen. This machine holds a LOT of trash. As described, the "compacting" really happens after bin is more than 1/2 full. I am down to this bag/week vs 10 or more bags/week. So far no odors inside..and I love not having open trash bins in my kitchen! It is loud, and different things in the trash make different sounds.. But it is only for a few seconds. SO WORTH IT!!!

I'm pretty happy with this trash compactor so far. It holds far more than I expected. Fairly quiet operation. My only criticism is that I ordered a free-standing appliance, which fits perfectly and conveniently next to the kitchen island; however, the back is unfinished and clearly intended to be installed against a wall. I'm trying to figure out a way to camouflage it for a more aesthetic appearance. Otherwise, I think I made a good decision.
